Donate to the Wilson High School Ski Team
Dear Donor:
The Wilson Ski Team is a Club Sport at Wilson High School in Portland, Oregon. This is a sport that anyone can join no matter what their skiing ability is. We will teach you how to race. As a club sport, we do not receive any school funding. We participate in the OISRA (Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association) and follow their rules and guidelines. We also voluntarily follow all of the rules and regulations required by the OSAA for student athletes.
All of our expenses are paid for by our students, parents and through fundraising efforts. Equipment, lift tickets, bus fees and coaches are a few of our largest expenses. Our weekly bus transportation for the season is over $7,000 and our coaches are paid over $10,000 for their time and expertise. We also take two training trips a year to prepare for competition.
Our coaches have years of experience in Slalom and Giant Slalom Ski Racing. They set our courses for training as well as on race day. They film and critique our skier’s technique and style for areas of improvement and increased performance. Our Dry-land Coaches focus on our conditioning and weight training during the preseason as well as during the racing season to help our racers build their strength and stamina. They encourage and motivate the team and most of all we have fun.
This year we have approximately 25 members and every one of our parents is an active volunteer. This sport requires parents to chaperone buses to the mountain for training, organize and run the club and competitions, stand in the snow either gate keeping, working the course or hand timing sometimes in very snowy conditions.
The Wilson Ski Team is a great group, and without the generous support of contributors like you, we wouldn't have this rewarding opportunity to participate in a sport we love.
